Accomplishments

How well do you take a compliment?  How often do you find yourself batting away those words of praise as effortlessly as a Baseball pro?  Or dodging those, quite frankly, verbal assaults like you’re Keanu Reeves in The Matrix?  There’s no time for that! There’s too much to do, so much to achieve and so little time!

It makes sense that if so many of us struggle to receive a simple “well done” or a “you were amazing”, that the concept of self congratulation is about as foreign as a reindeer in outer space.  Unless, of course, it’s December.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

It is important to take stock of our accomplishments.  Not only does it makes us feel good, but it can actually inspire and motivate us to achieve better results.  Here’s how:

What goals have you accomplished in the last month?

Have a think.  Write them down.  With any luck it’ll bring a smile to your face and remind you just what you are capable of.  It’s way easier to be productive and get motivated when you’re feeling confident.

TOP TIP: Keep a record of tasks, goals or useful habits that you have achieved and revisit it often to remind yourself of your success.

We’re busy people, and so keeping a record of those habits and techniques that worked in the past is an important way of speeding up productivity.  If it worked for you before, it’s highly likely it’ll work for you again.

We’ve spoken about little victories before (read more about them HERE) but keeping track of them can make that BIG GOAL feel less overwhelming and all the more tangible; you’re doing it, it’s happening, you’re on your way!

How might you reward yourself in a way that encourages you to achieve more?

In school, most children love getting a sticker or a gold star for their successes.  Even better is when they can collect as many of them as possible.  Then they grow up and can forget how much those small rewards impacted them for the better; forget how they inspired them to work harder and motivated them to achieve more.

Ask yourself: “What’s my gold star?”

Personally, I love a checklist, even if it’s filled with the most basic of things.  Ticking off those “to do’s” is like a tiny serotonin boost; it both inspires me to get more done, but also leaves me feeling satisfied in the things I’ve already completed.

TOP TIP: Frequently schedule time to acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments.

It’s not big-headed or arrogant to give yourself a pat on the back, and by keeping track of and revisiting your accomplishments, you are creating a cycle of positivity and self-belief that can only benefit you long term.

Keep at it, keep adding to it, and then use it as tool to accomplish even more.
